GIVEAWAY!! My Memories Digital Scrapbooking Software

Have you heard the latest word in digital scrapbooking software? MyMemories. Well technically that is two words, but it is still the latest and greatest. especially this week because they released a new version just yesterday! And you lucky folks are getting a chance to win a copy today! (Winner to be announced one week from today!)

First, what is My memories software? Well, it is a ridiculously inexpensive way to digitally scrapbook your past, present and future photographs without spending a grand. It has gotten great reviews all over the web including scrapbook.com which was my go to web site when I was strictly a paper scrapbooker. I use Photoshop (A super old release that makes me want to cry when I use it.) for everything from photo editing to blog headers and lately even free printables for the blog. But when I was approached to test out MyMemories and give away a copy I was totally jazzed.

Although I was gifted the software I  have purchased a couple digital kits. This Thanksgiving one in particular ad another gorgeous Christmas one I can't wait to use to make our Christmas cards.

I spent two weeks playing around with the software and I managed to create the Thanksgiving cupcake toppers I posted last week and the Thanksgiving finger puppets I posted this morning. I know, where is the scrapbooking? Well, how about these quick pages I downloaded (For free!)and popped a picture in. Took ten minutes including the downloading time.

That is another thing, My Memories has lots of digital freebies, like five (web)pages worth. There are always sales on the kits that are or purchase AND you can download the files in Mymemories format and PNG format or use in other software applications.

Secret Stash Busting!

A few months ago Heather of Dollar Store Crafts had a hiccup on Twitter that announced a year old stash busting giveaway. Without reading the dates ('cause that is how I roll) I filled out the form, only to be red faced later when Heather was kind enough to reply letting me know my error. I thought "Hey, why not do it again?!" and offered my supplies to join in on the fun if she so chose to repeat the process. She did, and I did but do to a communication hiccup (Read stupid tooth infection that made me useless for weeks!) I was not able to send mine directly to her to mix up and mail out, instead what I am doing is sending off four packages to Canadians as a bonus to Heather's randomly chosen ten picks.My packages are a bit smaller (I have no sponsors and a smaller stash lol), but hopefully the recipients find them to be satisfactory. (I'm all nervous as I address them to mail off!)

I kind of dropped the ball and didn't get a chance to announce it here so that you could at least apply to be a secret stash bustee so I will be collecting one more package to send to one of you. (Although I am sure that every single one of you read Dollar Store Crafts!) Stay tuned for that and a few more giveaways and announcements, times be a changin' around here!

Anniversaries are special aren't they? They sure are, and a great blog I read called The Vintage Sheet Blog recently turned one and to celebrate Jen has been hosting a month of giveaways. Some seriously wonderful prize packs have been given away and some are still available!
Because of my roller coaster ride that is/was the month of march, I did not get to do a lot of sewing. But, I did manage to get a small fat quarter bundle together to give away!

These are five fat quarters (18x22")but really they are at least that in size, some are much bigger. And, in case you are wondering, I haven't even had the chance to sew with a couple of these. The top yellow one? I allowed myself that little goody recently (I have been on a very strict no new stash buying policy.) But it was too gorgeous not to pick up, I mean c'mon it is yellow and lacy!
The brooch is a little number I whipped up mostly because I felt bad that it was not a more exciting giveaway. ;)

Vintage Sheet Bundle Winners!!

Two for Giveaway Week #2

Wow, I am really getting this one in under pressure! I have spent the morning prepping these prizes and I only moments ago finished taking the photos and uploading them! Wanna see? Ok!


Some of you that have been reading me for a little while know my love for working with vingtage linens. If asked in an interview about my favourite material(s) to work with I would answer "Vintage sheets and then denim." So, this week, I thought I would share that love and give away TWO prize packs! Up for this weeks draw are two vintage sheet five-fat quarter bundles and matching vintage(ish) buttons! I am a craft hoarder, and this was hard. But to show how much I love you, each bundle has a fat quarter from my most favourite sheet ever!


In this bundle of pretty pinks and yellows you'll notice on the top is the yellow sheet I have made so many wonderful things from already. And, as much as I love it, I felt I should pass on some of the sunshine.


If you look closely at this prize pack you'll notice there is a fat quarter from the very sheet I made my winning skirt with. (For those of you who are just joining us, the denim and patchwork skirt in my header is the skirt I am talking about.)That fat quarter was hard to give up as well for it screams vintage to me and the colours are so soothing.

But, on to the giving away part! (See, I told you I love those sheets!) For a chance to win one of these fat quarter bundles you need only two things. The first is become a follower if you are not already. The second is tell me which pack you prefer and what you would do with it!

Just in case you have no idea what a fat quarter is (Like myself until a couple months ago) these fat quarters are Canadian fat Quarters or Diaper Cuts, meaning they measure 20x22".

Giveaway Numero Uno!

Are you excited? I am! I am also a little nervous so we should just do this!




The first giveaway is a three piece set I made a couple weeks ago. I had opened up my box of clothing cast-offs and there were two grey and white pant leg bottoms my mom had kindly donated to my cause. I was instantly inspired to make a folding clutch. (Pant legs make the perfect folding clutches.) I rooted through my stash and found some really nice grey lining fabric and when it came time to add the button I was inspired by some beautiful vintage red ones I had collected on a recent thrifting trip.



I love the colour combination here. the red button, red zipper and red beads on the flower pin just pop against the greys and white. The pieces were all super simple to make, but I am nervous about handing them off. I am relatively new at this sewing thing and I am a little self conscious about the quality. But, having said that, I really like these pieces and I hope you do too!

I meant to post this yesterday, but with all the camping hoopla, well I forgot! But, here it is! What is it? Well, for the entire month of September I will be holding a giveaway every week! Fun Bunting Giveaway @ Common Threads!

It is a celebration! Not here (Mind you I could use a drink!) But over at Common Threads they are celebrating. What are they celebrating? And more importantly how are they celebrating? You ask. I shall tell you!



Recently they set up their very first booth (ever) at Birthfest and it was such a success they just had to come home and give stuff away. (That is my kind of party, well that and the drinking kind!)

Because, what is more celebratory than bunting (except margaritas maybe) they are offering a chance at a custom made bunting just for you!

Storybook Sunday : Let's Go Outside!

The Great Outdoor Adventure Challenge : Storybook Sunday Edition!

I know that Storybook Sunday (although few and far between) is usually about storybooks, this one is for grown-ups. But for kids too. Well, written to grown-ups for the benefit of children. Sound good? How about sounds great?! This book is wonderful. I cannot sing it's praises enough.

I adored this book and all it had to offer. Wonderful quotes themed for play and nature. Wonderful activities from the simple Kick the Can, (Which by the way is not as simple as I though, I honestly learned how to play kick the can.) to the more complicated Personal backyard feild guide, there is something for all ages and all interests.

As I said before, I do not need a book to tell me how or why I need to go outside to play with Wednesday. We go outside almost every single day weather permitting. But, sometimes it is nice to do something more than watch her climb a jungle gym or walk the boardwalk at the local nature reserve. This book gave me just that. Each activity is enthusiastically described and there is a "Take it Further" feature for each activity. These are like 'extra credit' assignments. Great ideas for older kids, or even the more enlightened younger ones.

This is the second book of the same sort by Jennifer Ward. The first is called 'I Love Dirt: 52 Activities to Helt You and Your Child Discover the Wonder of Nature' I have yet to read it but you can bet it is on my Chapters wishlist! She also has a plethora of story books written with appreciating nature in mind. I have one (Forest Bright, Forest Night) reserved at my local library, the rest will come in time. I am excited though.

I think you could not ask for a better book when you are playing along with Lisa of 5 Orange Potatoes Great Outdoor Adventure Challenge. Although we missed out on outing on Friday, we made it out yesterday and today. On Saturday we rolled around in the grass and collected dandelion bouquets for Grandma and today we played hopscotch and went for a nice long walk in a green space ending with a romp on the jungle gym.

To celebrate so many things this month; my 100th post, 55th reader, The Great outdoor Adventure Challenge, the arrival of Spring, etc. etc. and so on and so forth...I am giving away a copy of this book. I love it so much and fee that more people should both read it and go outside more I feel the need to buy one and send it off!
